Bar Leone unveils second location in Shanghai
Named The Best Bar in Asia in 2024 and 2025, the Roman-inspired Hong Kong, China favourite will expand its global footprint with a bold new outpost in Shanghai
Multi-award-winning Hong Kong cocktail bar Bar Leone has unveiled plans to open a second venue in Shanghai, China this Autumn. Co-founders Justin Shun Wah and Lorenzo Antinori will bring a taste of Roman hospitality and their unique concept of Cocktail Popolari – or ‘Cocktails for the People’ - to Huangpu, Shanghai offering their signature cocktails, aperitivo-style service and the bar’s renowned snacks across two floors.
The launch marks an exciting new chapter for Bar Leone, which has blazed a trail in Asia Pacific’s cocktail scene, since opening in Hong Kong’s Central district in 2023. In 2024, it made history as the first bar ever to debut at No.1 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars, a title it retained in 2025, and at No.2 on The World’s 50 Best Bars 2024, cementing its reputation as a global leader in mixology. With the upcoming Shanghai opening, Bar Leone brings its award-winning blend of Italian charm and unpretentious excellence to one of Asia’s most dynamic cities, marking the next chapter in its remarkable story.
Bar Leone has quickly become one of Asia’s most celebrated bars, enveloping guests in a Roman-inspired setting of vintage football jerseys, retro posters, and the ambiance of Italian hospitality. Guided by its ethos of cocktail popolari, the bar delivers classics with consistency, simplicity and speed.
As Shanghai’s nightlife continues to flourish, Lorenzo Antinori is excited to bring Bar Leone to a city with a vibrant bar scene, where cosmopolitan energy, cutting-edge cocktail culture, and diverse local flavours create the perfect stage for the bar’s signature mix of innovation and Italian flair.
Bar Leone Shanghai is set to open in late Autumn 2025.
