Contraluz introduces a new Cristalino Tequila
Casa Lumbre expands its Contraluz portfolio with an inviting new Cristalino Tequila that continues to redefine the Cristalino category.
NEW YORK – Contraluz, the world’s first Cristalino Mezcal, continues to redefine the Cristalino category with the debut of Contraluz Cristalino Tequila – a smooth, modern expression crafted to elevate life’s everyday toasts. With its roots in innovation and artistry, Contraluz brings a fresh perspective to Mexico’s most iconic spirits, now expanding from Mezcal into 100% Blue Agave Tequila.
This new Cristalino Tequila marks the third expression under the Contraluz brand and reflects the continued creative partnership between Casa Lumbre – the global spirits company known for pushing boundaries in Mexican distillation – and international superstar Juan Luis Londoño Arias (Maluma), who serves as both partner and investor. “I’m proud to keep building with Casa Lumbre as we unveil the newest evolution of Contraluz,” says Maluma. “This Cristalino Tequila is smooth, approachable, and made to be shared. We created it to turn everyday moments into something worth celebrating.”
Made in the highlands of Jalisco with the traditional methods used for the development of premium aged tequilas, Contraluz Cristalino Tequila sets a new standard for Cristalino spirits. Rather than relying solely on charcoal filtration to remove color and refine flavor, a portion of the liquid is redistilled to achieve greater clarity and character. This third distillation preserves the full expression of the aromatic and flavorful qualities acquired from our raw material - the agave – and our aging process, delivering a complex finish. The remaining liquid undergoes activated carbon filtration to remove the color imparted by the barrel and refine the taste.
“By taking these two components – filtered and redistilled – and blending them, we spotlight our tequila’s core ingredients: agave, water, yeast and the notes imparted by the wood, and deliver a perfectly clear spirit that retains the complexity of barrel aging while offering a smooth and inviting finish thanks to the charcoal filtration,” says Chief Innovation Officer and Casa Lumbre Co-Founder Ivan Saldaña, who developed and perfected this innovative technique to the world of Cristalino spirits. “At Casa Lumbre we are committed to honoring the long-standing traditions in agave-based spirits while celebrating that innovation can also be a part of the conversation around the growth of the category. Through the creation of Contraluz Cristalino Tequila, we wish to invite new consumers to experience an aged, Cristalino tequila that is not only well made but is accessible to more palates.”
“At an SRP of $42.99, Contraluz Cristalino Tequila is uniquely poised to bring more consumers into the category given its entry level price point,” says Casa Lumbre Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Moises Guindi. “With this latest innovation, Contraluz can now offer its one-of-a-kind agave spirits for toasting any and all occasions.” Contraluz Cristalino Tequila joins two other SKUs: Contraluz Cristalino Mezcal – the 1st to apply charcoal filtration process to an aged mezcal – and Contraluz 11:11 – a limited-edition agave expression aged in Sakura casks.
